“The All American Strongman Challenge (hosted by the LA FitExpo) is in its 13th year,” contest organizer Odd Haugen told IronMind. “Only three athletes have won twice, and no one has won it three times.”

If you’re a strongman fan, the first thing you might notice if you look at the past winners is that every single one of them has competed at the World’s Strongest Man contest, by far the top competition and the most coveted title in the field.

The second thing you might notice is that Martins Licis (aka Marty D. Licis) is well positioned to be the first guy ever to score the hat trick, coming off back-to-back victories and a very impressive debut at World’s Strongest Man earlier this year.

Licis is also a top threat on both the grip and mas wrestling contests that form the other two legs of the 2017 Odd Haugen Strength Classic, so his performance in strongman might be only the beginning of the story.

Plan to attend the Los Angeles FitExpo January 7–8, so you can see it live: strongmangrip and mas wrestling.
