Begun in 1991, certification on the Captains of Crush (CoC) No. 3 gripper is an icon in the strength world, and the planet’s most celebrated feat of grip strength: Today, Zsolt Hornyak has joined this elite club, as he showed his complete mastery of this challenge under official conditions—crushing the CoC No. 3 gripper first with his right hand and then with his left hand.

Not to overstate things, but Zolt Hornyak proved his domination of the fearsome Captains of Crush No. 3 gripper, as his referee, Árpád Nagy (Red Nail '16), reported to IronMind, “Today Zsolt Hornyak successfully closed the CoC No. 3 gripper. First with his right hand, and immediately after that with his left. Both attempts were very smooth and without a doubt, successful.”

Zsolt Hornyak lives “in Budapest (Hungary) and works as a systems engineer at the Hungarian State Treasury,” he told IronMind. “I started to train with grippers on a higher level after my successful Red Nail cert in 2016.


“As a general rule I train with grippers two times per week between regular gym trainings. Besides grippers and gym I use other strength and grip equipment three times per week. In the future I am planning to close stronger grippers and improve my Rolling Thunder lift. I would like to say a huge thanks to my referee, Arpad Nagy, for volunteering his time to help me accomplish this certification,” said Hornyak.
