There’s only one World’s Strongest Man (WSM) contest and it’s not being held in Abu Dhabi this weekend.
Brian Shaw won the 2011 World’s Strongest Man contest, a property developed and owned by IMG, and not to be confused with any other strongman contest. IronMind® | Randall J. Strossen photo.
Addressing this situation, IronMind received the following statement directly from IMG today:
“To avoid confusion, IMG confirms that the event currently being staged in Abu Dhabi is not an official World’s Strongest Man event. IMG are the owners and operators of the World’s Strongest Man, which is a separate event and has no dealings whatsoever with this organisation.”
The real World’s Strongest Man contest is traditionally held later in the year and IronMind will confirm the details of the 2012 contest as soon as they have been officially released,
Meanwhile, also keep your eye on this column for news related to other official WSM events, including both the World’s Strongest Man Experience and Giants Live—The Official Qualifying Tour of the World’s Strongest Man.
