America’s Strongest Man®: Battle of Champions Rocks the Constitution State
by Dione Wessels
The crowds came out in force to the first ASC show in Connecticut, the home state of the current lightweight and heavyweight America’s Strongest Man® titleholders, Derek Poundstone and Dave Miholav. After two days and six events including the Liquid Grip Husafell Stone, the Revolutionary Technology Nutrition Giant Dumbbell Press, the Isolator Yoke and Frame medley and the Infinite Labs Atlas Stones, 2 new ASC pros were crowned at the Europa Battle of Champions 2010.
The contest saw a California sweep as LW amateur Sean Demarinis bested a tough field including Connecticut’s own Mike Mastell. Demarinis was a step ahead of the rest of the field with an impressive load of the 405-pound Atlas stone. Long time NAS heavyweight competitor Dan Harrison fought off a tough group and a late push by Dave Bourgeois of Massachusetts. “The competition was run very quickly and the fans in Connecticut were amazing. It was great to get back home,” said ASC VP Mike Johnston. “We want to thank Derek Poundstone and Tom McClure and the rest of the Connecticut crew for all their help.” ASC President Dione Wessels and IFBB Pro Joe Palumbo of Infinite Labs presented the two champions their awards and official ASC Pro cards.
