BAD SALZUNGEN, GERMANY – In the first German Masters’ Championship, Michael Zitzelsberger, 47, won a very close competition qualifying him for the World’s Master’s to be held during the Belfast Ultimate Strongman Giant Weekend August 24th and 25th in Ireland.

The masters’ championship will host the strongest international athletes over the age of 40.

The competition in Germany was held simultaneously with the amateur Germany cup. The masters’ pitted eight athletes ranging in age from 40 – 61 battling through five tough events.  The events for the competition were maximum axle deadlift; 110kg (242lb) log for reps; tire flip (330kg – 726lbs) and log drag (180kg – 396lbs) medley; frame (240kg – 528lb) and farmer’s walk (120kg – 264lbs per hand) medley. The last event was 5 atlas stones loaded onto a platform ranging from 120 – 160kg (264lbs – 352lbs).

Heinz Ollesch, the German Federation of Strength Athletes president stated, “It was a very close competition. It’s great to see a masters’ competition. I think these younger athletes had the utmost respect watching and competing with the masters. These men have longevity in the strongman sport and it’s hard not to be impressed.”
