Records galore tumbled at McPherson Highland Games in Kansas, celebrating its nineteenth in succession and attracted vast spectators over its weekend of festivities. A total of just over fifty athletes competed in a total of nine events in perfect weather conditions and on a flat field which witnessed five world records and twenty eight ground records being broken.
The first world record to tumble was by Terri Ventress in the Woman’s 50-plus category in the 28-lb. weight over the bar with a height of 15’ 3”, smashing the previous World record of 15’.
In the Master’s 60-plus, Bill Leffler broke a total of four world records: the 22-lb. Braemar stone with a distance of 32’ 5”, the 28-lb. weight for distance 57’ 8-½”, 42-lb. weight for distance 36’ 2”, 16-lb. hammer 93’ 1” and the 22-lb. hammer 75’ 3”.
In the A group division, Chad Ullom was on fire from the first event till the last and had a clean sweep setting a total of seven field records out of the nine events.
Co-Athletic Director for the McPherson games Dave Glasgow and his team did an outstanding work to put on a great games and hospitality which brought the best out in all competing in what is now recognized as Kansas most primary leading Highland Games games.
