Mas Wrestling and Strongman in Sacramento

“Sacramento's Untamed Strength gym will be the host for the first MAS Wrestling tournament of 2015, which will be held in conjunction with their ‘A Very Heavy New Year’ strongman competition on Saturday, January 10th,” MAS Wrestling USA Director of Sport Development reported to IronMind.

Seasoned strength athletes and promoters Alan Thrall and Clay Edgin are working together to start off the new year with a bang by offering two competitions on the same day—giving competitors a chance to compete in one or both. One side of the competition strongman and the other is mas wrestling; and if you’ve never seen or tried mas wrestling before, Robert Lira (left) and Sean Couch (right), shown competing a the LA FitExpo earlier this year, give you an idea of how things unfold. "Pairing the two sports makes perfect sense because strongman and mas wrestling are all about demonstrating raw, functional strength," said Edgin, "so when I had the chance to bring a MAS Wrestling USA tournament to Sacramento and work with Alan, I jumped at the opportunity. There are a great group of competitors in the area and I'm excited about sharing the sport with them."

“Mas wrestling's popularity has spread like wildfire since its introduction in the U.S. two years ago,” said Edgin. “The sport's growth and development has resulted in a team of 6 athletes representing the USA in the Mas Wrestling World Championships in Yakutsk City, Russia last month taking home 2 silvers and 2 bronzes in their respective weight classes, so watch for a writeup in the next issue of MILO.”
