“34-year old Gregor Edmunds from Carmunnock, Glasgow broke the long standing SHGA world record for throwing the 28-lb. weight for distance today at Markinch Games,” Linda Edmunds reported to IronMind, under the headline, “GREGOR SMASHES WORLD RECORD.”
“He threw a distance of 95’ 10”, exceeding the old record by an extraordinary margin of 3’ 5’,” she said. “The throw also exceeds the American version of the record held by the Australian Matt Sandford of 94’ 6”.
“This puts into perspective past performances of great Highland Games athletes such as Geoff Capes, Arthur Rowe and Bill Anderson,” Ms. Edmunds continued.
“Gregor was recently commended in the Scottish Parliament by James Dornan, MSP when he triumphed over the might of Poland, England and Iceland at the Carmunnock International Highland Games.
“Could Gregor be Scotland's secret weapon for the 2014 Commonwealth Games?,” she asked rhetorically.
