Brian Shaw Wins Arnold Strongman, Mike Jenkins is Second

Calls for a breakout performance by Brian Shaw at the 2011 Arnold strongman contest were spot on as he continued on the trajectory that appears to be taking him to the top of the strongman world.

Shaw showed his strength throughout the weekend and put his stamp on the contest by lifting a 535-lb. manhood stone for what was reported as a world record on that event.

The final event, the Circus Dumbbell, stopped Sergei Romanchuk, Terry Hollands, Nick Best and Mark Felix, none of who could complete a rep.  Mikhail Koklyaev got 2 reps, Zydrunas Savickas got 3, Travis Ortmayer got 4, Brian Shaw got 6 and Mike Jenkins won the event with 8 reps.

Here are the final places and points:

1. Briain Shaw 46.5
2. Mike Jenkins 39.5
3. Zydrunas Savickas 37.5
4. Travis Ortmayer 36.0
5. Mikhail Koklyaev 30.0
6. Mark Felix 24.5
7. Nick Best 21.0
8. Terry Hollands 18.0
9. Sergei Romanchuk 17.0

Along with Shaw's performance, Mike Jenkins made a huge splash: Jenkins got his invitation by virtue of winning the 2010 ASC Arnold Amateur Strongman World Championships and this was his debut in professional strongman.

ASC president Dione Wessels, who brought amateur strongman to the Arnold, told IronMind, "Jenkins's second place was a huge plus: Some people said he didn't belong [here]."

Along with the Cyr trophy and congratulations from Arnold Schwarzenegger, Shaw’s victory earned him a check for $45,000 and an Audemar Piguet watch.

Jenkins second place was a huge plus in my favor. So Many people said he didn't belong.
