Bagheri Bags The 94-kg Title

(Antalya, Turkey) It took Kourousch Barheri (IRI) three attempts to make his opening snatch, but it was worth it: His 185-kg lift gave him the gold medal in the snatch in the 94-kg category at the World Weightlifting Championships, and opened the door to his overall win.

Three lifters (Pashaev, Pilosyan and Karapetyn) snatched 182.5 kg, and pre-contest favorite, Szymon Kolecki (POL) was a distant tenth, with 172.5 kg. Pashaev (AZE) and Bagheri cleaned and jerked 222.5 kg for the silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the jerk. Kolecki made 230 on his second attempt, for the gold medal in the jerk, and then went for 237.5 in a bid to win the gold in the total, but only deadlifted the bar.
