Andy Vincent Leads in Pleasanton

Andy Vincent leads a strong field at the 2013 U.S. Invitational Heavy Events Championships presented by the Caledonian Club of San Francisco in Pleasanton, California.

Andy Vincent powered off the front in the first event, the Braemar Stone, winning with a put of 42‘ 6-1/2”. For context, the next three athletes following him—Scott Rider, Daniel McKim and Jon O’Neil, all came in with 38’-something.
Dan McKim, who is coming off a victory at the 2103 IHGF World Championships last weekend, won the light hammer, with Matt Doherty coming in second and Craig Sinclair third.
Andy Vincent and Mike Zolkiewisz both made 18‘ 2” in the 56-lb. weight for height, and Zolkiewicz went on to make 18‘ 4”, for the win, before missing 19‘ 4” in a bid to break his world record in the event.
Andy Vincent edged Dan McKim in the caber, with Matt Vincent coming in third place, to set the stage for what promises to be two-horse race between Andy Vincent and Dan McKim when the competition resumes tomorrow.
