Picking up where he left off at the 2018 Los Angeles FitExpo, Russian grip strength star Alexey “Tank” Tyukalov attacked the world record for the Rolling Thunder Two-Arm Pull-up, maximum weight, in the IronMind booth at the LA FitExpo.
With no warm-up, Tyukalov opened with a conservative 1-kg jump over his world record of 155.5 kg, for an easy success. “Alexeev,” he said to IronMind’s Randall Strossen with a smile, alluding to the great Soviet weightlifter Vasily Alexeev, who repeatedly extended his world records in 1-kg increments.
Succumbing to encouragement for more, Tyukalov went up 5 kg to 161.5 kg, where he met another success: “No doubt about it,” said referee Riccardo Magni. “Good lift!”
As impressive as the mark was, bystanders were quick to quip, “There’s more left in the Tank!”
