Although everyone will have to wait for the actual TV shows to see the details and know for sure, Zydrunas Savickas won the World’s Strongest Man contest today according to multiple sources.

Started in 1977, the World’s Strongest Man contest has been running strong for 35 years and the 2012 edition might be the best one yet. IronMind® | Artwork courtesy of IMG.

Filmed for TV, the World’s Strongest Man contest historically does not release official results until after the program is broadcast (probably in late December), but with a live audience and 21st century connectivity, the outcome is known to at least hardcore fans almost instantaneously.

This year’s competition was called possibly the best ever and it proved to be a banner year for Lithuania, whose strongman star Zydrunas Savickas was joined on the podium by his countryman Vytautas Lalas, as they took the two top places.  Hafthor Julius Bjornsson (Iceland) took third.

Once again, the show’s creator, IMG executive Barry Frank, was on hand to enjoy the competition despite triple digit heat amplified by asphalt as the finals were staged in front of the Commerce Casino.

Watch the WSM website for the broadcast schedule—if you like strongman, the World’s Strongest Man shows go on your don’t miss program list.
