Juha Matti Järvi Wins East Finland Challenge

In a contest featuring Finland’s top strongman competitors, Juha Matti Jarvi held off Rauno Heinla and Jani Kolehmainen to claim victory at the 2010 East Finland Challenge, Ilkka Kinnunen reported to IronMind®.

East Finland Challenge Won by Juha Matti Järvi

The 2010 East Finland Challenge was held Saturday, 17 July, in Finland city called Varkaus.  The competition brought together the top Finnish strongman athletes at the moment.  It was very sunny and hot day in Varkaus when the first event started.  With a full audience and [set in the] home city of Jani Kolehmainen, the athletes were ready to start the six-event competition.

The first event was the  Farmer’s Walk where athletes carried first 136 kg in each hand a distance of 25 meters uphill and then 150 kg in each hand back for a total of 50-meter course.  The top three from the first event were Juha Matti Järvi (22.39”) Jani Kolehmainen (24. 90”) and  Rauno Heinla (30.50”).


The second competition event was the Log Medley, where athletes had to lift three logs weighing 110 kg, 125 kg and last one 145 kg for time.  Top three in this event were Juha Matti Järvi (14.63”), Rauno Heinla (18.09”), and Topi Friefeld (29.53”).


The third competition event was the Tyre Flip: athletes had to turn 380-kg tyre 6 times.  The top three were Jani Kolehaminen (33.4”), Rauno Heinla (35.53”), Juha Matti Järvi (37.06”).


The fourth event was the Deadlift Medley: 260 kg, 280 kg, 300 kg, and 320 kg were lifted for time.  The top three were Rauno Heinla (all four) in a time of 10.6”, Jani Kolehmainen (three weights) in a time of 12.3”, Juha Matti Järvi (three weights) in a time 12.4”.


The fifth event was a Yoke Race where athletes had to carry a 350-kg yoke uphill for a distance of 25 meters. The top three were Juha Matti Järvi (14.06”), Rauno Heinla (15.91”), Jani Kolehmainen (17.22”).  The last event was the Atlas Stones, weighing 100, 120, 140, 160 and 191 kg.  No one did the last stone.  The top three were Juha Matti Järvi (4 stones in 17.9”, Jani Kolehaminen (4 stones in 23.1”, and Rauno Heinla (4 stones 24”).
