Greg Hadley Wins the 2010 New Brunswick Highland Games

Reigning Canadian Highland Games champion Greg Hadley turned in a strong performance to win the 2010 New Brunswick Highland Games this past weekend.

It was a clean sweep for Canada’s Greg Hadley at the Fredericton, New Brunswick Highland Games this weekend.  A group of Canada’s top throwers strove with Hadley over the eight events, with Dirk Bishop, Danny Frame and Al MacFarlane giving their all against the current Canadian champion.
 
In the opening event with the 22-lb. Braemar stone, Hadley showed he was truly on form, winning with a put of 39’ 8”, more than a meter farther than his nearest rival.  Dirk Bishop placed second with a distance of 35’ 8-1/2”, with Danny Frame in third place at 34’ 6”.
 
Following that, the 17.2-lb. open stone was won by Hadley 45’ 1”, with Bishop this time narrowing the distance between them with a put of 43’ 11” for second place.  Frame came in third at 41’ 5-1/2”.
 
In the 56-lb. weight for distance, Hadley once again demonstrated great technique, blasting out the winning and dominating distance of 44’ 5-1/2”, with Bishop in second place at 35’ 3-1/2” and with Danny Frame firmly holding onto third place at 34’ 9-1/2”.
 
The 28-lb. weight for distance brought Hadley his fourth straight victory with a triumphant distance of 79’ 8”.  This time Danny Frame upped it a gear to overtake Bishop for second place with a throw of 72’ 9”, leaving Bishop in third place at 70’ 11”.
 
In the fifth event of the day, the 22-lb. hammer, Hadley dazzled the many spectators with big throw of 111’ 7” for first place.  Bishop recaptured second place with 99’ 10” and Al MacFarlane made an appearance in the top three with a distance of 92’ 3” for third place.
 
In the 16-lb. hammer, Hadley notched up his sixth victory with a distance of 125’ 11”, leaving Bishop in second at 118’ 11” and Frame in third place at 111’ 9”.
 
The caber event, with a pole 18-ft. long and 110-lb., ended with three athletes equaling first via 12 o’clock tosses:  Hadley, Bishop, and Frame.
 
The final event with the 56-lb. weight over bar ended with both Frame and Hadley tying at a very respectable height of 15’ 6” done in the traditional style, with Frame winning on countback and Hadley taking second place.  Dirk Bishop came in third place with 14’.
